1.

Nativity Means New Birth

"Gentle Jesus meek and mild"
Came to Earth a little child.
Gave up all of strength and power.
Grew until His preset hour.
Lord of Heavens - Breath of Earth
In this Baby come to birth -
Through the smallness of His frame
Eternity and Blessing came.

Tiny lashes, fragile nails,
Small, clenched fists and broken wails.
'Twixt the compass of His thumbs
Reconciliation comes.

See Him in this laughing Boy ,
Free from sin and full of joy -
Growing out of all His clothes,
God (in homespun linen) goes.
From the scribes He learns the law.
He whom Angels should adore -
For God's own Grace and Majesty
Suffuse a lad, from Galilee.

See Him now, mature and strong,
Living out His Father's plan .
Leaving workbench, adze and plane -
Going in His Father's name.

2.

Striding down the dusty roads
Thorns and pebbles bruise His toes.
- Such a short time to impart
All that's in His Father's heart..

Brutal lashes! Savage nails!
Shaken fists and sobbing wails!
Wooden crosses lurching high
Tear the bodies soon to die.

A body in a borrowed tomb -
At the Inn there was no room.
Could Mary, as she saw Him die
Feel that first Nativity?

* BUT *

Sin was paid in full alloy
And death was overwhelmed by Joy!
He lives!! He reigns! And Mary's Son
Completes today work then begun.
Risen Jesus, scarred by nails
Come to us, remove those Scales-
As your Spirit brings the Light
Nativity is new, tonight...........
