Blue Opal

I had seen Judy Turner's "Black Jewel" at the Sydney Quilt exhibition and loved it. So when she included instructions for it in her book Awash with Colour I made a blue version of it as a wedding present for my son John when he married in 1996.

Main fabrics are a Hoffman's butterfly print in blues, aqua, grereen and purples and a royal blue homespun. The backing is a blue Indonesian batik purchased at the batik market in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia and was chosen by John's wife, Winarti a couple of days before the wedding.

Machine pieced and quilted, the quilt measures 90½" x 99".
