Jim's

"talking machines"

Columbia Disc Gramophone manufactured by the Columbia Graphophone Company c. 1925. Internal horn, volume control by adjusting front louvres.

FALK Portable Gramophone manufacturer uncertain, c1939.
Cabinet and internal horn completely rebuilt by me.

This was originally made to play the large 5 inch Edison cylinders. The large cylinders were eventually withdrawn and the factory issued a kit to convert the machines to play the normal 2 inch cylinders. When the 4 minute cylinders were issued they also supplied a conversion epicyclic gear kit, which is fitted to this machine. This allowed the machines to play either the 2 minute or 4 minute cylinders. When first issued for sale in 1899 the Concert cost the princely sum of $125, which was a very high price in those days. This is one of the 1899 models. Not many of these machines were made and are now quite rare.

Model A, Key Wind, 1902. Plays only 2 minute cylinders. The Gem was the smallest of the Edison phonographs and cost $10.

These treasures from the past have been meticulously restored in every detail and give me many hours of listening pleasure.

Don't stay away too long, more to come when restored
