Unclaimed Letters .Belfast [Port Fairy].
December 25th.1852.

These unclaimed mail lists were published in newspapers all over Australia because the postmasters had to get mail delivered,Many people were periodically away from their regular addresses (especially so during the gold rush period) and so postmasters in individual towns organised to have the lists made available to the public.

Belfast was first known as Port Fairy but when James Atkinson selected his survey there he named it Belfast. The residents of Belfast petitioned in the 1880's to return the town's name to Port Fairy.
