		"The Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church negotiated an 
		out-of-court settlement, in 1998, with more than 60 former resident 
		of the Neerkol orphanage between 1924 and 1971, who claimed 
		they were abused and imprisoned as children. In October 1997, 
		the Sisters of Mercy apologised "unreservedly" to former residents 
		who were "victims of physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual 
		abuse". The settlement ended one of the largest litigation cases in 
		Queensland history.
