MISSING FRIENDS

Friday, 4 November 1864

Richard BACON, formerly of Reading, Berkshire, will hear of 
something to his advantage by communicating with J Millard Esq, 
solicitor, Uxbridge, Somerset.   If dead, any person giving 
information thereof will receive £5 reward.

Friday, 18th November 1864

If Mr E F JARVIS will call or send his address to Murray's 
Dining Rooms, he will hear of A K Jarvis.

Friday, 25th November 1864

Should this miss the eye of Mr John HORNBY, late of Mechanic's 
Bay, Auckland, he can hear of his daughter Emily by writing to 
her address, Emily Hornby, Post Office, Sydney, to be left till 
called for.

Saturday, 26th November 1864

Reginald SMITH, son of Robert Edward SMITH, late of 
Endsleigh-street, Tavistock Square, London. Five pounds reward 
will be given for satisfactory information of the present address 
or, if deceased, of the death of the abovenamed Reginald Smith.  
He came to the Colonies about the end of the year 1857 and when 
last heard of in 1862 was employed in taking horses from
Sydney to New Zealand.   He was previously engaged in cattle 
farming at Zulzibar, near Clarence River, Queensland, and had 
also engaged in some exploring expeditions.

Mr Richard B UNDERWOOD, late of the Waikato, is requested to 
send his address to the Chief Postmaster, Post Office, Auckland, 
December 1, 1864.

Friday 30th December 1864

Mr William SMITH from Dunedin; there are letters and newspapers 
at the office of this paper for you.

Mr Fred HASLAM, leave your address at Belfast Hotel, 
Princes-street and oblige BLOMFIELD.

Saturday 11th February 1865

On or about 11 o'clock on Wednesday morning, Mr William Henry 
SMITH left his home at Newton.  Has not been heard of since.  
Supposed to have been taken ill.  Any information respecting 
him will be thankfully received at his residence opposite the 
Newton Post Office or at his brother's, Mr F Smith,
boot and shoemaker, opposite the old Court House, Queen-street.

Tuesday 21st February 1865

John, Ellen or Jane CULLEN, from Londonderry, are requested to 
write to their brother - address: 
Bombardier Cullen, Royal Artillery, Melbourne.

Tuesday 31st January 1865

Mrs Elizabeth MONCK who arrived aboard the Claude Hamilton 
January 9, may hear of news by leaving address, directed to 
JBM, care of Mr Smith, Old House at Home.  A letter awaits you 
at the Post Office, Auckland.

John AYLING who arrived per Robert Lowe is requested to 
communicate with me.
Any person offering information concerning him will oblige 
Charles Haselden, Waste Lands Commissioner's Office.

Thursday 2nd February 1865

A new cattle market proposed for Stoke's Point, North Shore.

From the Native Minister's Office, Auckland, 16 January 1865 - 
His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to license Harold 
Hyde  FENTON, George William Drummond HAY and John Grant 
JOHNSON, Esquires, to be surveyors under the Native Land Act 1862.

Tuesday 21st February 1865

Mr Albert CHARLES, lately arrived by the Armstrongis requested 
to call without delay on Mr FLETCHER, Wesley College.

Thomas C Clarke, late of Bassingbourne near Royston, Herts. - 
a letter from home is lying at the 'New Zealander' office.

Wednesday 26th April 1865

Mrs BALLANTYNE, (maiden name Ellen McCORMICK) formerly of 
Co. Armagh, Ireland, and now supposed to be in Auckland, is 
requested to communicate with her uncle James STARR of Armidale, 
New England, NSW, care of Mr Arthur Cubitt, Missing Friends Office, 
Bridge-street, Sydney.  
Mrs Ballantyne is hereby informed that the cost of her passage 
to Sydney will be repaid on application to the said A Cubitt.

Wednesday 17th May 1865

John McCARDEY from Fermanagh is requested to write to his brother, 
Archibald McCARDEY, Papakura, Auckland.

Thursday 1st June 1865

Mr M??? MURRAY from Jersey who arrived in Auckland per the 
Alliance in June 1864, is requested to call at the 
Provincial Treasury without delay.

Friday 23rd June 1865

Mr Francis NEAVE who arrived in the Devonshire from London, 
is requested to communicate with J Richmond of the 'New Zealander' 
office.

Friday 11th August 1865

Mr FEATHERSTONE from Co. Clare, Ireland, a letter from home 
lies for him at this office from his sister.

Any information respecting a man of the name of Patrick HAMILTON
 who came out to Auckland in the ship Pegasus about four 
months ago will be thankfully received by his wife.  The 
Immigration Agent at the Superintendent's Office, Auckland, 
will receive such news respecting him as may lead to his recovery.

Tuesday 22nd August 1865

John BELL, shipwright, a native of Berwick on Tweed, who left
England for NZ about 8 years ago and was last heard of at Auckland, 
some three years since.
Should this meet his eye, he is earnestly entreated to return home 
or write to his sister, Miss Elizabeth Bell, at Mr D Falvey's, 
21 Gloucester-street, Bow Common, London, or any information 
concerning him will be thankfully received.

Thursday 12th October 1865

John ATKINSON of Armagh, Ireland, who left London in June 1864 
for Auckland per Columbus is requested to write to his 
brother Robert Atkinson, care of John Inglis, Black Bull Inn, 
Hindley-street, South Australia.

Robert, James & William CLEMENTS (brothers) who left Cornwall 
for the Australian Colonies, separately, several years since 
and have not been heard of for some time, are requested to 
write to their brother, James W Clements,
Outaalpa, N E Plains, South Australia.

Monday 16th October 1865

Left home at Parnell without his parents' consent on Saturday 
the 7th inst., William Hewson, aged 13 years.  Last heard of 
at the North Shore.  Any information r respecting him will be 
thankfully received by his father, R Hewson, Customs.

Friday 24th November 1865

Mr John Douglas late of Hylton near Sunderland, is requested to 
call on Mr J Douglas, Burton Cottage, Wellesley-street.

Tuesday 5th December 1865

John Gill, a native of the Isle of Mann, last heard of at Otago, 
is requested to write to Capt Powning, Silverton, South Australia.  
Any information of the above J Gill will be thankfully received.

MISSING FRIENDS

Wednesday 24th Jan 1866

Should this meet the eye of any person acquainted with 
the present address of Mr John Gill, carpenter and builder, 
a native of Woolwich in Kent, who left London 1838 and went 
to Auckland, NZ, re commencing building there, aged now about 
80, they would confer a favour by showing him this or
forwarding any information to Mr Samuel Gill, his son, 
No.7 Lambath-road, Southwark, London, England, or to the 
Editor of this paper.

Wednesday 21st February 1866

Matthew O'LOUGHLIN - Any information of the present address 
or whereabouts of the abovenamed individual who is supposed 
to be in New Zealand will be thankfully received by his 
niece Annah O'Loughlin, care of Mr Ralph Hall Young, Lambing Flat, 
N.S.W.

Wednesday 25th April 1866

If this meets the eye of Charles or Benjamin POTTS who sailed 
from England in the barque Balaklava in March 1865 for 
Auckland, and they will communicate with their brother Thomas 
at 12 Brooke-street, Holborn, London, they will hear of something 
to their advantage.  Supposed to have gone to the diggings.
