In 1838 and 1839, newspapers regularly published lists of those men who were applying
for the right to vote at elections (for a member, or members, of parliament) in their region.
Click Here for Introduction_ A qualification was necessary to vote: men had to be a landholder or leaseholder,worth a certain valuation, before they had the right to apply to vote. The usual format for the information given in relation to the voters was:(eg) Surname: Addis Firstname: Thomas Occupation: Farmer Place/Residence Cramps Castle Qualifacation: As a Freeholder (£10), Lands (in) Townland of Cramps Castle Parish: Baroney: Middlethird. Further information in relation to the below mentioned men in the Voting Registers Index can be obtained by contacting Jenny, but general enquiries will not be answered due to time constraints. All care taken in transcription, but as original spelling is retained, it might be worth considering optional spelling for place and surnames. |
