Beachport, located on the south-eastern coastline of South Australia is wedged on a small peninsula that abuts Rivioli Bay, Lake George and the Southern Ocean. Established in the 1830's as a whaling port, the town has since become a popular holiday destination and an important fishing centre. The long 700 metre jetty is a good indication of the shallow Rivioli Bay that promotes safe swimming beaches and water activities. The town centre has an interesting mix of historic and recent buildings, tall Norfolk Pines, heritage walks and several vantage points. Although its commercial centre is minimal, Beachport has a range of services that are spread throughout the town to facilitate tourists. Of interest in the area include the Pool of Siloam (small lake to the west of the town that has a high salt content allowing swimmers to float on the surface similar to the Dead Sea), Bowman Scenic Drive (tours the rugged western coastline and the range of small beaches), Durants Lookout (1km south-west) and the Beachport Conservation Park (5km north-west).
