Nuriootpa is the largest of the three main towns which lie in the heart of the Barossa Valley. It lies against the North Para River, just off the Sturt Highway and is the commercial centre of the Barossa Valley region. The town is surrounded by hectares of vineyards and wineries - the town is home to several storage and production facilities with a viticultural research station located nearby. The town itself is well laid out - has a pleasant yet busy, green main street which boasts several specialty shops, German food outlets (reflecting the strong influence German settlers had in the region) and a number of parks abutting the North Para River.
