Willunga

Willunga is one of the principal centres of the Southern Vales region lies at the foothills of the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges and approximately 50km south of Adelaide. The town, settled in the late 1830's was originally established due to the nearby slate quarry however as operations lessened the town became well known for its almond groves of which eventually spawned the popular annual Almond Blossom Festival event and more recently wine production. The town itself is excellent - many tree lined avenues, an upgraded main street with several historic buildings & specialty shops (Willunga Bakery is recommended) as well as a great lookout to the south of town which offers vast northerly views across the Southern Vales.
