INSIDE THE TREATMENT ROOMS

This is one of the very comfortable patients' chairs inside the Clinic. The Clinic has several such chairs. On the left is an infusion machine for delivering the chemotherapy to the patient. On the right is a table used by the Sister, containing equipment. There are plenty of yellow and purple bags and containers in an Oncology unit. The yellow colour signifies "hazardous waste" and the purple signifies cytotoxic material. |
Most patients receive their treatment in the chairs pictured at the left but there are also two beds at the far end of the clinic for use by patients who are already hospitalised or whose treatment requires them to be in a bed. Contrary to appearances, patients do not receive a free mud facial in the Clinic! The patient in this bed kindly agreed to have his photo taken but his face has been obscured to preserve patient confidentiality. |

Most patients will have had their blood counts taken prior to their appointment at the Clinic and the results will be on file before the chemotherapy is administered. In some instances it is necessary to check blood levels on the day of the visit. These patients can visit the Hospital pathology unit beforehand and the results will be treated with priority and notified or made available to Clinic staff. The Pathology Unit is located at the end of the same corridor which you enter via the Day Services entrance at the rear of the Hospital. There is also a small cafe and lounge in this area. |
