As we head towards the 21st Century the Newcastle Longboard Pro/Am draws closer to its scheduled weekend of the 23rd to 25th February 2001 at Newcastle Beach. From this year both Pro and Amateur surfers can surf in two events. See the entry form for full details. PRIZESThe 2001 event has a total of $6,000 in prize money for the 2 Pro Australian Longboard Circuit events not to mention a stack of give a ways for all the competitors. SPONSORSThe contest directors have high expectations of gaining support from two new major sponsors for this year. Watch this space for details. We are very pleased that continuing support is being received from GOLDEN BREED clothing from Victoria and The NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL both of which now join our long term sponsors in WILD SURF CO., BOB CALTON MOTORS and the BEAUMONT EXCHANGE HOTEL. We really appreciate their long term support - make sure you show their efforts are worth while. PROThe Two Pro events are expect to fill quickly and have a very impressive list of local and overseas surfers coming for this years event, including last years winner Beau Young, and Geoff Moysa, Bonga Perkins, Kanoa Dahlin and the local boys Josh Ferris, Jye Byrnes, Matt Kay and Mark Hancock along with other Aussie surfers such as Jason Blewitt, Ian Bell and the ice man Wayne Dean. The who’s who of Australian and overseas surfers are again expected to confirm their entry. LADIESThe Ladies event is also looking very impressive with Belinda Baggs, last years winner, being hot to defend her title against the local girls and another strong contingent from Sydney, Queensland and overseas. AMATEURThe Amateur Divisions this year are :- U/18’s / O/35's / O/45’s / O/50's and this year we have also included an amateur 9 foot and an 8 foot shootout. All the amateur divisions are expected to be hotly contested. JUNIORSThe up and coming Longboarders are again expected to demonstrate their skills as in past years. We hope they don't put too many of their older peers to shame like last year. ENTRYSo if you want to compete and as yet have not sent an entry grab one. They are in surf shops, are available at this Web site or ring John Flanders on (02) 49264473 or Phil Baggs on (02) 49436167. Come along meet some of the Overseas and Australian Professional Longboarders and be apart of Newcastle’s premier Longboarding Event. Phil Baggs & John Flanders, Contest Directors. |
