Michelle and I are parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)between us we have seven children six of which have a diagnosis. In our family units we have diagnosis of Autism LD, Asperger Syndrome, AD/HD, Irlen Syndrome, Epilepsy, Low Functioning Hearing Loss, CAPD, Dyslexia, Sensitivities to sound, touch, smell, tactile.
We have developed this Individual Cueing System partly due to our need for our families to have some sort of order and scheduling system in place for our own sanity and the need for our children to have easy access to visual routines and to have a better quality of life.
The Individualised Cueing System or ICS grew from a desire to develop an organisational/time tabling tool that could be used in a variety of situations. We began to collaborate on this project when we realised we had similar ideas and goals for our children. What has developed as a result is a streamlined system that enables students with ASD to view their day at a glance, and prepare themselves for upcoming subjects/specialist teachers.
