We have 75 branches throughout the state of Victoria who are active in their communities when necessary, and are also involved in social entertainment as well.   They have an Annual General Meeting each year to elect their own branch Executive Officers and also delegates to the bi monthly State Council meetings and also the yearly  State Conference, thus ensuring that all members have imput into the affairs of the Association.  The Head Office Executives are elected every 2 years at the bi annual State Conference.    Others prefer to just join the Association through the Head Office and not belong to a branch.   They have full voting rights at any State meeting.

Although the Association was formed in 1954 and became Incorporated in 1992, the Association

started back in the 1950 period when rent controls were lifted in Victoria with consequent hardships to many in the low income groups. The founder of the Association  was the  late Miss Marjorie Nunan, who was herself an invalid pensioner, crippled with arthritis and who wore callipers on her legs.  In the middle of winter she sat on the steps of Parliament House with a family who had been evicted from their home, stating she would stay there until a politician came out and spoke with them   This she did and eventually one did come out.   This one act generated much interest and support.   Marg gathered together a small group of other pensioners and inspired them with the great fighting spirit that she had in abundance, as proved in her many battles in and out of the courts to obtain justice for the underprivileged in and around Melbourne.  And so conceived and born in an era of injustice, the Association was born.

Unfortunately she never lived long enough to collect an invalid pension.
