THE RUSSIAN STANDARD
![]() General: The Russian cat differs from the ordinary British Shorthair, being graceful and long in body and medium strong in bone.
Medium long wedge with flat skull, forehead and nose straight with prominent whisker pads a firm chin and even bite.
Large and pointed, wide at the base and set vertically to the head. The skin of the ears thin and transparent and with very little inside furnishing. Eyes: Vivid green set rather wide apart. Almond in shape
Long and graceful in outline and carriage. Medium strong bone.
Long legs. Feet small and oval
The primary feature is the coat and one which distinguishes it from all other cats which is short, plush and very close. The coat is double so that it has a distinct silvery sheen and is very different from any other breed. The texture and appearance is the truest criterion of the Russian cat.
Fairly long and tapering.
Awards should be withheld as follows: Kinked or abnormal tail. Non conformity of eye colour as prescribed in the general standard. Squint. Any resemblance to Siamese type. White or tabby markings. Cobby or heavy build. Square head.
Nose leather: Blue. Paw pads: Blue.
Coat colour: Glistening white and even throughout. In maturity free from tabby markings or shading. Nose leather: Pink. Paw pads: Pink. Faults: Yellow shading on coat colour undesirable. Note: * Kittens should not be penalised for blue marking on head as this will fade in maturity
Coat colour: Deep velvet black with glistening sheen. Free from any indication of rust on tips. Nose leather: Black. Paw pads: Black. Faults: Free from any indication of rust tips
