Quiztime is a program that enables students ("contestants") to test their grasp of a topic by attempting tests (quizzes) chosen or written by their teacher.
Quiztime manages banks of up to 1000 multiple-choice type questions, each with up to 5 responses. The teacher can write a new set of questions or modify an existing set and can set the number of questions to be answered by the students in each session.
To try to prevent students memorising the quiz rather than learn the subject matter, the questions are selected from the bank in random order and the order of the response choices is different each time.
Immediate reinforcement is provided by showing the student the correct response after each question has been answered and by a Star rating awarded at the end of the session.
Quiztime is beta-test software. It has had some some in-school testing and I now wish to make it more widely available to
- find out if teachers find the programs useful
- check that the program runs correctly on different computers
- seek suggestions for changes to make Quiztime more useful.
Quiztime is available in 2 versions. The Windows 3.1 version is suitable for use with any Windows 3X version and can be run as a standalone (not networked) using Windows 95 or 98.
The Windows 9X/XP version is designed for modern versions of Windows and is suitable for use on networks of these machines. Although not yet tested on Windows NT4, Windows 2000 or Windows ME, it should also run on these operating systems.
You can obtain Quiztime beta version free of charge by completing the Request form. A copy of Quiztime will be sent to you by email.
You may use Quiztime for as long as you wish except that you are requested to contact the author by email
- immediately, if you find problems of any kind.
- after one month of use, to let me know of any impression of Quiztime that you may have formed. Suggestions (preferably constructive) for improvements to Quiztime are welcome.
All information received in this way will be held in strict confidence and not used for spam nor made available to others.
For more information, consult the Readme page. The same information is available in the Readme.txt file after downloading the Quiztime package and there is more in the Quiztime.hlp file.

Vocab counts the number of times each word in a document is used.
New versions: Version 1.5 for Windows 3.X and version 3 for Windows 95, 98, ME, XP
The new versions have been fully rewritten and contain a number of significant new features
You can use Vocab to
- check a student's functional written vocabulary.
- prepare vocabulary lists for reading materials.
- prepare spelling lists.
Before you can use Vocab you must get the text into a text file.
This is easy if the work has been already been entered into a file but if the text is in printed form, you may be able to scan in the printed pages and use OCR software to convert it to text. If you have Voice-recognition software you may be able to analyse students oral work or read in hand-written work.
Vocab is beta-test software. I have tested it extensively myself and I now wish to make it more widely available to
- find out if teachers find Vocab useful
- check that the Vocab correctly on different computers
- to seek suggestions as to changes to make Vocab more useful.
