Here are some utilities that I have written and have been using for some time. I have found that I have been able to make Windows 3.11 quite stable by using Chores to regularly run Scandisk, Defrag and a virus scanner and by placing HABMon in my Program Manager's Startup Group. HABExam is one of my most-used utilities. I use it nearly every day to locate information HABEdit suits me better than Notepad and I have changed the file associations for txt, log and ini files to HABEdit. I use HABCal whenever I need to check a date or age and HABFiles when I need to "massage" a text data-file. Most of these utilities are written for. Windows 95, 98, ME and XP and are not suitable for the obsolete Windows 3. Old versions, suitable for Windows 3, of most of these utilities are available but may lack some of the features of the current versions. If you have Windows 95, 98, ME or XP, please download the current version by clicking on the “Download” link. The old 16-bit versions, suitable for Windows 3, have been removed from the site but you can still obtain them by completing the form at the foot of this page. Please note that the programs Chores and HABmon are designed specifically for MS-DOS/Windows systems and are not intended for use with Windows 9X or XP. TreeSize is designed for Windows 3X but will also run in Windows 9X and XP, however its use with these systems is unneccessary since you can get the same information by right-clicking on the folder name in File Manager and selecting Properties from the pop-up menu.

HABFab is a metric converter for workers with fabric.
HABFab was designed to assist quilters who obtain patterns from other countries.
In the U.S., quilters normally use yards for their Requirements specifications and inches for their Cutting lists, while in continental Europe, centmetres and metres are used, and in some countries, such as Australia and the U.K., either set of units may be used.
This can cause problems if you need to translate from a “foreign” system to the one you normally work with.
HABFab was designed to help make these conversions easier
For more information, consult the Readme page. The same information is available in the Readme.txt file after downloading and installing HABFab and there is more in the habfab.hlp file.

HABfiles was previously known as HAButil.
It is often difficult to transfer data from one database or spreadsheet program to another. Although modern operating systems have very sophisticated means of transferring data from one application to another on the same computer, it can become much more difficult when you receive a file from some-one else by way of the internet or diskette.
Text-files are a commonly-used lingua franca for transferring raw data in these circumstances. However experience soon teaches us that we are quite likely to meet problems with the use of text files.
HABFiles was designed as a simple utility to solve many of these problems, including different means of delimiting fields and incompatible date formats.
For more information, consult the Readme page. The same information is available in the Readme.txt file after downloading habutil.zip and there is more in the habfiles.hlp file.

HABmon is a utility designed to enhance Windows 3.0 and 3.1x installations.
It monitors the WINDOWS Resources and warns you when they are getting low so that you can take action before it is too late.Onscreen it appears as a tiny toolbar-like window, 16 pixels high, which can be positioned wherever you like.
It appears to be a simple clock (with alarm and timer), but has the resource monitor running in the background. Whenever your resources fall below 20%, a message will pop up and you will be able to close unwanted windows, or to save your data and either restart WINDOWS or reboot the computer. The HABmon "Window" button also acts as a shutdown button (something like the Windows 95, 98 Start button). Click on it and you will be able to choose from
- Exit Windows
- Restart Windows
- Reboot Computer
- Exit HABmon (usually not a good option)
For more information, consult the Readme page. The same information is available in the Readme.txt file after downloading HABmon.zip and there is more in the HABmon.hlp file. (Right clicking on the HABmon window will reveal a popup menu in which Help is one of the items.)

HABPad is a file viewer and editor similar to the Notepad utility but with a number of enhanced features including:
- Several files may be opened at the same time in different windows.
- Non-text files (and text files) may be opened and viewed (but not modified) in Hex-view
- HABPad does not "choke" on large files or switch to WordPad as do Windows 9X versions of Notepad. Instead it loads as much of the file as it can (up to a maximum of 2 Gb).
- HABPad has a Replace function as well as an enhanced Search function.
Note: HABPad is HABEdit with the Hex-view but not the Hex-edit function. It is intended for use in situations where the ability to edit any file may be too much of a temptation for inexperienced or irresponsible users.
HABPad uses an innovative layout for its Hex-view that makes it much easier for the user to see the relationship of text to hex,

NameCase is a simple utility for managing the case of file-names. The case (UPPER, lower or MiXed) of file and folder names has no significance to Windows/DOS operating systems but it does matter to some web-servers and to some browsers.
Windows Explorer for 9X can be misleading in the way it represents filenames in that all-uppercase (DOS-style) names are shown as proper-case. This can cause problems when constructing web-sites, since you have to be very careful about the case of filenames when setting up links. NameCase helps you to adopt a systematic approach to the case of filenames.
Another use for NameCase is when migrating to Windows XP. XP Wndows Explorer shows names in correct case and you can get an ugly mix of cases when you add files from different sources. NameCase will make it easy to tidy them up.
NameCase resembles a simplified Windows Explorer and should be very easy to use.
For more information, consult the Readme page. The same information is available in the Readme.txt file after downloading namecase.zip and there is more in the namecase.hlp file.
