HABit Tidy provides a Windows graphical user-interface for HTML Tidy for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP.
HTML Tidy for Windows is a free command-line utility for cleaning up and reformatting HTML code and is available for download from http://tidy.sourceforge.net/
HABit Tidy relies upon HTML Tidy for Windows to perform its major tasks and without it is just a rather basic text-editor.
HABit Tidy can also be used with the console version of HTML Tidy dated 4 August 2000 and released by David Raggett but I cannot guarantee that all the Custom options will work as described.

readme.txt - this file
license.txt - license, terms and conditions
install.exe - an installation utility.
install.inf - data for install.exe
_files.zip - a compressed file in PKZip/Winzip format containing:habtidy.exe
habtidy.hlp
template.htm - a "default" html file
The install.exe utility in this package makes installation very easy. All you have to do is to run Install, read and accept the conditions in the license and either accept the suggested folder or provide a different folder name. The files will be copied to the correct locations.
If you have received this package as a "ZIP" file, you will probably already have "unzipped" the installation files or be reading this file in "Winzip" or a similar utility. If you are using Winzip, simply click on the Winzip Install button and the installation utility will start.
If you have received the package on disk or have already unzipped the files, locate the folder (directory) which holds the files and run Install.
You can run Install as follows
- In Windows 9x or Windows XP, click on the Start button, select "Run" and enter the command-line [your folder name]"\install" eg "C:\temp\install" or "A:\install" and click on [OK].
- The install utility will show you the terms and conditions for the use of HABit Tidy.
If you signify your agreement to these terms and conditions by clicking on the button marked I agree to these terms and conditions, the installation will proceed, otherwise it will halt.
- The install utility will prompt you for the name of a folder to hold the HABit Tidy files.
Use the path suggested unless you have a good reason not to (eg. you are already using a folder named C:\habtidy)
You will have the option of installing start menu shortcuts for the files.
- When you click on the [OK] button, the files will be installed to the folder you have chosen.
WARNING you may not install HABit Tidy unless you have read, understood and agreed to the terms and conditions contained within the accompanying file, License.txt.
If there is no such file named License text included with this file, this is not a legal copy of HABit Tidy and you may not install it.
- Create a folder for your HABit Tidy files. (C:\habtidy is suggested)
- Find the folder containing the extracted files and copy _files.zip. license.txt and readme.txt to your HABit Tidy folder.
- Change folders to your HABit Tidy folder and use an unzip utility to extract the files.
eg. if you are using the pkunzip utility, you would use the command "pkunzip _files.zip"- Create Desktop or Start Menu shortcuts in the normal manner.
- Delete the files that you installed in your habtidy folder (habtidy.exe, habtidy.hlp, and readme.txt, template.htm, license.txt and, perhaps, _files.exe) and any files created by HABit Tidy and that you do not wish to keep.
If you created a folder for HABit Tidy and it no longer contains files then delete it also.- If you installed shortcuts:-
- Delete any HABit Tidy shortcuts in the Start Menu and/or on the desktop.
