Land Grab

A scenario for Warhammer

Objectives make a game a lot more fun than a simple "kill everyone else" affair.  Apart from giving the game much more of a reason for happening, they give it a different flavour.  They add depth, and another layer of thought.  No longer is it simply "how many can I kill with this unit", but now "how do I get there, with these troops, while keeping them away from here...?".  Whether you want to or not, you have to be much more inventive with objectives.

The following is a very simple scenario with just one objective.  A mine has been discovered to contain heretofore unsuspected wealth.  Rumours have been flying, and two warlords approach with their armies, determined to own that mine - but just in case anyone else wants the mine, they will have to have some of their army survive to resist.  A fight to the death is out of the question...

The objective in this game is to take and hold the hill in the middle of the table - the mine is in it.  The deployment zones are 12 inches deep and 48 inches wide, centred along the table edge.  The forest on the left should not leave room to pass between it and the hill.  The gaps should be about a foot wide.  No unit may infiltrate.

Victory Conditions

The game lasts for 6 turns.  The winner is the player who, at the end of the game, has at least 20% of his army on the hill (characters do not count) - and he wins only if none of the enemy are on the hill.
