Moreton Bay Longtail Tuna World Flyfishing Challenge
1. All entrants must have current membership of the Australian National Sportfishing Association (ANSA) or The Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA). Proof of membership must be available.
2. The Fly Fishing Rules of the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) shall apply and fish may only be taken on tackle and with methods that conform with those rules. The ANSA division 3 rules broadly conform with the IGFA rules, but where they differ the IGFA rules shall apply.
3. Fishing may commence from 06.00 hrs on each morning of the event. All fishing must cease by 18.00 hrs on Saturday and fishing shall cease on Sunday at Noon. Fishers that have hooked a fish prior to the cease fishing time will be allowed to continue to play that fish until such time as it is captured or lost. Fishers "hooked up" at cease fishing time should endeavour to inform the tournament committee by radio of their situation.
4. Only fish that qualify for an Australian or World record may be killed. An angler presenting a fish that does not equal or exceed by weight the existing record as published at the commencement of the competition shall lose any points accumulated on that day, without exception. Current IGFA, ANSA and GFAA record charts shall be available to tournament anglers. All other fish "captured" shall be "released".
5. The definition of the terms "capture and release" shall be;
Capture When an angler brings a fish to such a postion that;
a hand is placed on the fish
or a tag is inserted correctly into a fish
or when the fish is deliberately released.
Release When a fish is released alive;
where the hook has been deliberately removed,
or the leader or line is deliberately cut so as to avoid injury to the angler or fish.
Landing nets may be used to assist in releasing a fish. Gaffs of any kind shall not be used on fish to be released.
6. Tournament points shall be awarded for the capture of allowable Tuna species only. Five points shall be awarded for the capture of each Longtail Tuna (Thunnus tonggol) and one point shall be awarded for each capture of any of the following species; Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares), Mackerel Tuna (Euthynnus alleteratus), Striped or Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonis pelamis), Bigeye Tuna (Thunnus obesus), Albacore (Thunnus alalunga).
7. Each entrant shall present to the weighmaster in person, their capture sheet on completion of each days fishing. The capture sheet must be signed by each angler in the presence of the weighmaster, even in the event of it being a nil return. Sheets must be in the hand of the weighmaster by 2130 hrs on Saturday 31st May and by 1400 hrs on Sunday 1st June.
8. Awards will be made for the highest point scoring individual angler and runner up. An award will be presented for the highest point scoring team consisting of at least two but no more than three anglers. There shall be no other award divisions. Provisional records weighed at the tournament shall be recognised by a tournament certificate.
9. All boats must leave each day for the fishing grounds from either the Pumicestone Passage or the Scarborough Boat Harbour.
10. The tournament committee as appointed by the Bribie Island SFC Inc shall be the sole interpreters of the rules of the tournament. The committee may amend any rule of the tournament for the purposes of clarification, safety, legal requirements, or for the protection of the good name of the Bribie Island Sportfishing Club Inc.
