METERING BOX

This connects between a power outlet and the appliance under test. It enables the voltage applied to, and the current drawn by, an appliance to be measured by plugging in the appropriate instruments. These could be an ammeter and voltmeter or a wattmeter.

INSULATION RESISTANCE METER

This is especially useful in determining the state of the insulation in a capacitor. It applies a voltage of 500 volts to the capacitor under test and displays its insulation resistance. It can also be used to determine the insulation resistance of any electrical appliance for operating safety.

WATTMETER CONNECTION BOX

This was made up as a dedicated connection box for the Emtek EDW 6000 wattmeter. It connects between the power outlet and the appliance under test. The four leads of the wattmeter simply plug into their respective sockets.

OUTPUT METER

Designed to pass, and display, only the AC component of the output of a radio, or amplifier, which is essential when aligning radio receivers. It has seven ranges from 1 volt to 500 volts calibrated at 400 hertz, the testing frequency.

EARTH LOOP AND LOW RESISTANCE TESTER

This instrument can test the integrity of a power extension lead. In addition it can test the continuity of an appliance’s earthing connection and measure low resistance down to a tenth of an ohm.

OUTPUT TRANSFORMER IMPEDANCE RATIO CHECKER

This device can determine the impedance ratio of the output transformer of a valve radio or amplifier. It is used in conjunction with a digital voltmeter.

PORTABLE VACUUM-TUBE VOLTMETER

This is a ten megohm input impedance voltmeter which is portable (no mains connection required) and fully insulated on both inputs. It operates from 2 ‘D’ and two ‘AA’ size cells and is instant on switching on and extremely stable. As far as I know this is unique in the world. It utilises two 3V4 tubes (valves) and a built-in dc/dc voltage inverter.

REGULATED HIGH VOLTAGE SUPPLY

This instrument can supply a voltage of up to 300 volts dc, at a current of up to 120 milliamperes. It is regulated at whatever voltage is selected. It is very handy when testing a valve operated radio with its own high voltage supply disabled.

UNIVERSAL MATCHING BOX

This device can be placed between an output and an input, in an audio circuit, and may be adjusted to obtain the optimum impedance ratio between the output and input. It is used in conjunction with a pyramid chart of my own design.
