WESTRIDGE. This name was given to the area of the Brickyards in 1917 by Walter Burley Griffin. Today the suburb is called, Yarralumla. The brickyards were built in 1913 and were operational from that time. The following year t he main nursery was established at Yarralumla in Sheedy's Paddock (now Weston Park and the Royal Canberra Golf Club). The Forestry School was established at Westridge in 1926/27 and Yarralumla House refurbished for the Duke & Duchess of York in 1927 became the permanent residence of the Governor Generals.
