Henry Harris, born c 1794, a native of Plymouth, England, worked there as a *waterman* on the Plymouth Docks, prior to his being convicted at age 23 in 1817 for larceny.

Henry was sentenced at Devon for 7 years transportation, and arrived in New South Wales, per 'Tottenham' and was subsequently transported to Tasmania per 'Admiral Cockburne' arriving there 14th OCtober 1818.

Henry was free by 1825, when he married Ellen Kennedy, nee McGrath. Henry and Ellen already had two known children by the time they married.

Henry Harris appeared to have been a heavy drinker and was described as of being of bad character in one cencus report. He was charged with violence to his wife on several occasions.

There are notations on Henry's convict records up until 1840, so we know that he remained in Tasmania up until that date, and we have located records to suggest he was farming on one of the Forest Farms, owned by the Van Dieman's Land Co Circular Head,Tasmania, in the late 1840;s.. but from thereon we have no further information on Henry other than his daughter described him as a bullock driver [teamster] on her death certificate.

So to date we have no knowledge of Henry's death or burial place.

Henry and Ellen had known children:
1.Margaret, born Tasmania, married Geo Burnett, Geo Willis and John Ferguson.
arr in Vict in 1848 per 'Essington' from Tasmania
2.Ann. married Robert Beames, [eventually came over to Vic,] Bulla was a teamster .Ann was a nurse.
3 & 4.2 sons, - names unknown..mentioned on mothers death cert.
5 & 6. 2 further daughters, details unknown..listed on mother's death cert.

On the official baptisms in Tasmania..there is Mary Ann Harris bapt 1822 Ann baptized 1828,, so a third daughter most likey Mary / Ann.
