The following index of names is for convicts and civilians listed in news advertisements and government notices, from the Sydney Gazette, for the year 1824. The references include appointments to the police force throughout New South Wales.Many convicts opted to work in the police force to enable a quick rise through the convict class system. Those serving in the police force also were generally paid a small wage, and were eligible for bonuses and awards for apprehensions and informations which resulted in court convictions. The below list also includes the appointment of free migrants and ex-soldiers to the police force. Further information can be obtained from: Jenny Fawcett.
