The following is an index to names as published in the Warrnambool Examiner on the 11th Sept 1860.Lists such as these are useful in narrowing down a time frame for an ancestor if usual avenues are not helpful.Also it adds to the nature of an ancestor's history. At first glance this seems an inocuous list of names, but in fact the list reveals that the collector, Mr McKiernan, was a thoughtful man, and he targeted the publicans and major landholders/leaseholders to the east of the township of Warrnambool, but specifically on the Farnham Survey, and around Yangery and district. It can often be found that when a collection is going on, newspapers will publish over several editions, lists of the names of donations obtained by several collectors. Subscription lists were taken up for a variety of reasons..eg church buildings, charitable causes such as for a widow left with children and no means of support etc...hospitals, asylums, schools,etc, and newspapers are littered with these lists which can assist in researching your family history.
