~~ Mother Nature ~~

Mother Nature; You asked me what's she like,
Well I will tell you in the best'est way I can.
And I'll make very easy, and real simple,
So, the smartest and the dumb will understand.

Have you ever seen the sun rise east of Alice,
Or rise above the desert after rain.
Or when the snow at it's purest, high in the mountains,
Or the moonlit splender of the western plain.

Have you seen the snow-white sands that kiss the ocean,
Or the Huon Pines that reach the Tassie skies.
Or the wild-flowers so sparse but so prolific,
Or the smell of eggs and bacon when it fries.

Have you seen sun set north in West Australia,
Or seen the gold that glitters brightly in a pan.
Or seen the clear-clean waters of a bush spring
That boils, the sweetest nectar from a billy-can.

So until you've seen those things that I have mentioned,
You'll never know the beauty she beholds.
And you'll never understand just why I love her,
Until, you've watched as Mother Nature she unfolds.

~~ The Fall of Dusk ~~

The fall of dusk upon the land makes the entire world stand still,
The birds and bugs and other things stop to ready for the night.
Every thing is silent, silent for a moment, a moment of that day,
And the silhouettes of the mighty trees stand black against the sky,
The animal all large and small they hear the call and cease their game and play.

It is the time all living things nocturnal awaken and ready for the night,
That is the time they hunt for food to sustain their life to live.
And it is the time for those who hunt during the day to ready for rest,
Those daytime hunters call their young to be kept safe from those who roam,
Those who roam at night, the nocturnal, the hunters who try their best.

The mouse hides from the night snake, the night snake hides from the night birds,
The kangaroo and wallaroo feeds in the cool of the night along the road side.
But, they are aware of the man made machine that kills and maims them without a care
There are many of their own are strewn along the highways to be consumed by the carrion,
The crows and wedge tailed eagle wait for daylight to feed upon their carcasses there.

The king brown snake lies in wait for a small rodent to cross his path, the taipan does the same,
If no rodents come along they will try to consume each other in a deadly fight.
The carpet python feeds on snakes as well as rodents so other snakes stay out of their way,
The large racehorse goanna also dines on poison or non-poisonous snakes as well,
But the snake's deadliest enemy is man and man will chase and kill a snake any night or day.

The tiny beetle and the centipede. the cockroach move in the stillness, silently without a sound,
As each leaf moves another beetle appears scurrying left then right searching for food.
At the same time being aware that it may at any time become food it self,
From beneath a large rotting leaf crawls a bright yellow and red centipede searching,
Searching for a nice fat beetle to feed upon to make sure it keeps its health.

The old grey frog mouthed owl sits patiently for its meal waiting for a mouse to appear,
A small nose pokes from out a hole and sniffs the air to smell for danger.
Next a small head of a mouse appears its eyes flickering and looking for its needs.
Quickly the grey field mouse runs from its hole beneath a clump of grass.
The old owl sees the mouse as it runs from its hole to feed upon the fallen grass seeds,

As quiet as dusk itself the old owl swoops down and with its claws grabs that field mouse,
The mouse squeals with fright more that with fear as the talons squeeze the life from it.
The old owl takes its kill back to its nest to feed its young; the owl rips apart and consumes the mouse,
Regurgitating the mouse the owl feeds its young; of the three young only the strongest will survive,
After the meal the old owl cleans up the nest of the droppings to keep diseases from its house.

Below the owl's nest there is a large hole where a family of grey rabbits live, it called a burrow,
There are a number of holes that lead into the place where the rabbits live and sleep.
These holes are escape routes in case the rabbits burrow is invaded by the rabbit's enemy,
The owl that lives above the burrow is the rabbit's enemy and a few kittens have been the owl's meal,
But the rabbits have no idea that the owl lives above its burrow and continues with its syngamy.

That is what life is all about for those who wish to live after dusk has fallen,
Life can be long or life can be very short for those who live in the food chain.
Animals, birds and reptiles fight for survival and the hunter then become the hunted,
How long will they survive when the ferial cats and foxes move in and destroy the food chain,
Will they become like the native plants that have become fruitless, twisted and stunted.

Axe Men

The trees they cry upon the wind
As the axe man sings his song,
He makes his mark upon the trees
Even though he knows it's wrong.

Many trees have fallen
By the axe man's hand,
Shrubs and trees and everything
Have gone to clear this land.

Then, they heap the trees and burn them
So there are only ashes left,
The axe man he's the one to blame
'Cos, to take those trees is theft.

The forest now is almost gone
To the greediness of man,
They plant their crops and feed their sheep
And what ever else they can.

The time will come so very soon
That man will feel the pain,
Because, the land they cleared will soon move on
When washed away with rain.

Now the land becomes unustable
With the soil all washed away,
Just because of axe men
Who cleared the land that way.

How

Dreams from long ago
Dreams of yesterday
At a time when things were different
Nothing mattered back then
Life was easy and happy
Happiness just seemed to flow
Sadness did not exist back then
But now that is all there is
Sadness and disbelief
Every where you look there is sadness
Nobody is happy anymore
Earthquakes, cyclones and droughts
Tornados all across the world
Is it Mother Nature's way
To pay us back for all the evil we have done
For all the forests we have distroyed
For the extinction of so many animals
The wars we are waging
The death of so many innocent people
Children that die before they have a chance to live
What have we become?
We are all to blame
Someway or some how
We have had a hand in the destruction
Of our planet
The big question is
How do we fix it?
Can it be fixed?
Or is it to late to be fixed?
