Bingara

Bingara, an attractive town situated in the Gwydir Valley is located on the Fossickers Way between Tamworth and Warialda. Settled in the 1840's under the original name of Bingera (later changed when the Bingara Shire was formed - recently amalgamated with Warialda Shire to form the Yallaroi Shire), the town initially grew from gold and diamond mining but as operations dwindled in the early 1900's, the town became the service centre for the surrounding wheat, cattle and timber industries, although has become popular in recent times for anglers and fossickers. Of interest in the area include several historic buildings, Rocky Creek Gorge (35km south), Batterham Lookout (3km east), Copeton Dam (50km east) & Cunningham Park along the Gwydir River.
