Byron Bay
Byron Bay is a popular holiday destination located on the northern NSW coast, off the Pacific Highway between Ballina and Murwillumbah. Originally a whaling station and seaport, nowadays the town is renowned for its excellent surfing beaches and warm climate. Directly to the east of town is Cape Byron, which is mainland Australia's most easterly point - at the summit are spectacular lookouts, various walking tracks amongst the Palm Valley Recreational Reserve and the Cape Byron Lighthouse. The CBD is full of quaint specialty shops, boutiques and galleries which somewhat reflect the relaxed environment and unusual mix of residents that reside in town. Certainly a recommended location although development, demand and increased international status in the last 20 years has slowly pushed accommodation prices and other standards above expectations.
