Casino, located at the junction of the Bruxner Highway and the Summerland Way, also lies on the banks of the Richmond River in northern New South Wales. The area was first settled in the late 1820's by squatters but a township was not surveyed until the mid 1850's with early industries being primarily timber and dairying. However, when a substantial meatworks was established in the 1930's, the town grew quickly as beef farming also became important. Essentially a service town for the region, Casino is surrounded by beautiful countryside, rich farmland with the Border Ranges to the north giving a great backdrop. The town itself is well looked after - has several parks adjoining the Richmond River, Jabiru Wetlands & Railway Museum to the north and several historic buildings (dating back to the early 1860's) in amongst a colourful and busy shopping precinct (Walker Street).
