Kew, located on the Pacific Highway between Taree and Kempsey, lies just inland from the Camden Haven tourist region and to the north of the spectacular Middle Brother Mountain. The town is essentially a service centre for passing motorists due to all the nearby large centres (Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Wauchope) being bypassed by the Pacific Highway. Although the journey from Kew north to the Oxley Highway junction is almost completely dual carriageway (Pacific Hwy), the coastal route through Laurieton, Bonny Hills and Port Macquarie is a picturesque alternative.
