Kurri Kurri

Kurri Kurri is a large town, situated in the Hunter Valley between Cessnock and Newcastle. The town was surveyed in 1902 to serve the rapidly expanding coal industry, however the mining declined and it is now a centre for local produce and home to other smaller industries. The layout of Kurri Kurri, while in a standard grid is unusual in that the centre of the town resides on top of the nearest peak with the rest of the town, spread around its foothills.
