Mudgee

Mudgee, the largest town on the Castlreagh Highway, lies on the banks of the Cudgegong River. The town is set in a superb valley, surrounded by mountain peaks, just behind the rain shadow line of the Great Dividing Range. The town was surveyed in 1823, the second town west of the ranges after Bathurst, and the gold rush of the 1850's along with local sheep and cattle farming brough prosperity to the town. Mudgee is a pleasant town to visit - interesting town centre with all the shops built mainly around one block.
