Urunga

Urunga, located on the northern New South Wales coast, lies just off the Pacific Highway between Coffs Harbour and Kempsey. Set adjacent to the mouth of the Kalang & Bellinger Rivers, the town is a sleepy village that tends to be removed from commercialism associated with many of the other nearby towns. Established in the 1850's as a timber town, Urunga eventually became a prosperous port when a breakwater was installed to minimise a series of shipwrecks. The port operations eventually wound down once road and rail services became more practicable and the town reverted to a quiet fishing village.
