Walgett

Walgett, located in north-western NSW, lies at the junction of the Kamilaroi and Castlereagh Highways and also marks the Namoi and Barwon river junction. The town, surveyed in 1859, originally setup as a port for paddlesteamers that travelled on the Murray-Darling system. Nowadays the town is the main centre for the vast pastoral districts that surround the region. The town centre is quite attractive - the main street is wide, tree lined & well organised and there are various parks set along the banks of the Namoi River.
