Beerwah

Beerwah, located between Brisbane and Caloundra, is the most southerly town in the Sunshine Coast region. Nestled amongst the Glasshouse Mountains, Beerwah is home to the world famous Australia Zoo (2km north) and is surrounded by a mixture of land uses ranging from state pine forests through to pineapple, banana and other plantations. The town's name originates from one of the nearby striking peaks that makes up the Glasshouse Mountains - the others being Mt Beerburrum, Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Coochin & Mt Coonowrin. Various scenic drives from Beerwah & Beerburrum (12km south) offer motorists a range of vantage points with some of the peaks accessible via walking tracks. The town itself, once along the busy Bruce Highway (now bypassed), has a prosperous town centre with a substantial range of shopping facilities considering its size.
