Clermont

Clermont, located amongst the Drummond Range in central Queensland lies just off the Gregory Highway. Established in the early 1860's after the discovery of the gold, the town was mostly washed away due to severe flooding and subsequently rebuilt on higher ground. By this stage, the gold deposits had declined and the town had became the centre of a vast surrounding cattle, sheep and grain industries. Clermont is also the residential base for the Blair Athol mine about 20km north. In the area are the Peak Ranges National Park (40km east) with standout features in town being the Clermont Museum and the landscaped Centenary Park.
