Dajarra

Dajarra, a small town located on the Diamantina Developmental Road, lies between Mt Isa and Boulia. The town was initially established to service the local pastoral industries in the 1880's however growth occurred when the railway was extended from Cloncurry in the early 1900's. The town became an important railhead enabling cattle to be transported to the east coast, however as road transport became favoured, the town declined to service the local pastoral industries. In recent times the Phosphate Hill fertiliser mine has also provided to the local economy.
