Gayndah

Gayndah, situated on the Burnett River and Highway is an important and largest centre in the North Burnett region. Surveyed in the late 1840's, it is one of Queensland's oldest towns. Settlers initially brought sheep and cattle into the area and the town formed as a service centre for the surrounding region. Other industries such as agricultural crops, dairying and orange groves (watch for the Big Orange) with the addition of being an important stop for motorists, have had a more recent influence on the town's economy. The town itself, set in a giant valley carved out by the Burnett River, has a busy & colourful main street and nearby Archers Lookout provides a great vantage point for the surrounding area.
