Mount Lindesay Highway

The Mount Lindesay Highway is a short highway that links Brisbane with Beaudesert and the Border Ranges National Park which lie along the QLD/NSW border. Starting in the southern Brisbane suburb of Moorooka, the highway follows Beaudesert Road through the Brisbane metropolitan area. Once the highway crosses the Logan Motorway, it passes through the rapidly growing regions of Browns Plains and Park Ridge where extensive roadworks have occurred to cater for the high quantities of traffic. South of Park Ridge, the highway reverts to single carriageway as it passes through dairy/cattle farming areas, bypassing the growing town of Jimboomba before reaching the important rural centre of Beaudesert. From Beaudesert, the highway continues south-west across, generally dry and flat cattle farming districts, passing through Rathdowney before changing route numbers to State Route 91 (shown above) as it continues south-west towards the striking peak of Mt Lindesay. Upon climbing Mt Lindesay, the highway enters the Border Ranges and reaches the NSW/QLD border, where motorists heading towards Woodoenbong and Kyogle will use the Summerland Way.

Note: The Mount Lindesay Highway originally connected Brisbane with Tenterfield (NSW) and some maps still show National Route 13 and the highway name in its original form. The highway's name in NSW was decommissioned in the early 1990's due to its ongoing poor condition (unsealed, windy) and lack of traffic. The thoroughfare in NSW has since been renamed as the Mt Lindesay Road with the Summerland Way directing most of the traffic from QLD through to Kyogle and Casino. Motorists wishing to drive to Tenterfield from Brisbane are advised to follow the Cunningham and New England Highways.
