St Lawrence

St Lawrence, a small fishing port is located just off the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and Mackay and lies adjacent to the protective harbour of Broad Sound. Once an important stop for motorists on the Bruce Highway, it has reverted to a small service town for the surrounding region as well as being the civic centre for the Broad Sound Shire. Due to the unusually high tides in the region, the town at times is almost surrounded by mud flats, with the mountainous hinterland giving an impressive westerly backdrop.
