St George

St George, a remote south-western Queensland town - is located at the junction of the Carnarvon and Balonne Highways and set on the banks of the Balonne River. The town is also known as the inland fishing capital, however its primary industries include beef farming, cotton and grape production. As the rainfall is low, extensive irrigation is carried out with several dams and weirs in the region. While all town entrances to the town are impressive, as is the river frontage to the Balonne River, St George itself appears a little disorganised with much of its CBD spread through several streets. Also lacking was the general lack of services for the motorist - strange considering the town is close to several highways and considerably remote.
