Tewantin

Tewantin, one of the most northerly centres on the Sunshine Coast is set along the banks of the Noosa River, is the headquarters for the Noosa Shire Council and the largest town in the shire. The town was established in the 1870's where timber from the hinterland was collected to be sent to Brisbane. By the time these operations dwindled, the town had become a popular holiday destination due to its close proximity to the beaches at Noosa and the safe boating haven of Lake Cooroibah to the north-west. Also of interest are the Noosa Marina, Mt Tinbeerwah lookout (5km west) with several well kept parks & gardens abutting the Noosa River. 4WD motorists can cross the Noosa River to the north to gain beach access for scenic drives to Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island.
