Toowoomba is located at the summit of the Great Dividing Range escarpment on the Warrego Highway and is the commercial and civic centre of the Darling Downs region. The city is spectacular and is known as the City of Gardens because of the high number of quality gardens, parks and tree lined avenues - the best gardens are open to the public during the city's famous Carnival of Flowers, held in September each year. In addition, the city has a number of colonial buildings still standing from the early days. The city centre is also excellent - set adjacent to the magnificent Queens Park, the city streets are also tree lined, colourful and full of activity. In the area are the Cobb and Co museum, Toowoomba's Art Gallery and the Russell St heritage walk. Scenic drives can also be found along the top of the escarpment offering great views into the Lockyer Valley.
