Yandina

Yandina, a small town set amongst fields of sugar cane on the flats of the Maroochy River, lies 10km north of Nambour and just off the Bruce Highway. Established in the late 1800's as a service town to the local sugar and timber industries, since WW2 it has become Australia's ginger town by being home to the world's largest ginger factory, which has now itself a tourist attraction by offering various tours and cane train rides. To the west lies Wappa Dam, part of the Sunshine Coast's water supply - is also popular for its recreational reserve and picnic grounds. The town itself has remained quiet with much of its commercial activity linked with the nearby Nambour with the addition of the bypass of the Bruce Hwy occurring in the 1990's.
