B55 (Murray Bridge-Berri)  originally formed a part of

The B55 traces the main route which originally connected Murray Bridge with Loxton. It starts at the White Hill Interchange on the South Eastern Freeway, 7km west of Murray Bridge and heads north-east into and through Murray Bridge following the old Alt-1 route. Continuing north-east through the northern mallee & wheat and sheep farming regions, the B55 passes through several small towns with Karoonda and Alawoona being the most noticable before heading north into the Riverland to the principal centre of Loxton and finishing at the B201 junction at Berri. Essentially a very flat, straight and uninteresting drive (aside from the areas nearby to the Murray River) although an important road link as it provides Murray Bridge and the southern Fleurieu regions a quicker journey to the Riverland (as opposed to using the A20 Sturt Hwy).

Heading west on the B55 moments before it joins the South Eastern Freeway at Whites Hill Interchange. Note the old Alt-1 route marker in the background (2004).

Distance sign westbound on the B55 as it departs Murray Bridge. Sign should mention B55 instead of M1 - it is notable that towns along the Old Princes Highway are mentioned rather than only SE Freeway focal points (2004).

Looking west along Adelaide Road inside Murray Bridge. Again note the old Alt-1 route marker.
Heading west on the old Princes Highway (originally Alt-1) approaching the B55 junction just outside Murray Bridge (2004).
Decisions decisions - looking south on the B55 as it approaches the old Princes Highway junction (2004).
Looking north along the B55. Good to see Berri getting a guernsey on the distance sign (2004).
