Gawler

Gawler, one of South Australia's fastest growing regional cities lies at the junction of the South and North Para Rivers and just south of the Sturt/Barrier Highway junction approximately 40km north of Adelaide. The town grew steadily early due to its key geographical position and as a result of the copper mining at Kapunda and Burra to the north by becoming a major manufacturing & service centre for the region. Though its early industries declined in the early to mid 1900's, Gawler remained as a centre for the local wheat and wool industries but has grown in recent years as a satellite city to Adelaide and the Barossa Valley. The city itself is quite grand with several historic buildings standing in revamped and busy main street and boasts the largest living Christmas Tree in the Southern Hemisphere which forms part of the well kept parklands abutting the Para Rivers.
