Tanunda

Tanunda, the second largest and one of the older towns of the Barossa Valley lies on the Barossa Valley Way. The town originally grew around the German village of Langmeil which was settled in the early 1840's - part of which can be seen in the western areas of town. Also in town are several historic buildings along the tree lined Murray Street (Barossa Valley Way) along with several specialty shops and the famous Storybook Cottage (2km south). In the area - several wineries surround Tanunda with tours operating daily; nearby is the small town of Bethany, the first German village settled in the Barossa and a great vantage point over the town and the region can be found from Mengler Hill Lookout (4km south-east).
