Castlemaine

The town of Castlemaine is spread over a series of hills and lies at the intersection of the Midland and Pyrenees Highways in Victoria's central west. Castlemaine was first settled in 1840, however the town boomed when gold was discovered in the 1850's. The main street still has many fine historical buildings still standing alongside wide, spacious, tree lined streets. In the area are the Castlemaine Botanic Gardens, the Australian Dingo Farm and the Burke & Wills Lookout to the east of town.
