Name Origin: The Hume Highway/Freeway derives its name
from Hamilton Hume, the first Australian born explorer. Hume and William Hovell
were famous for their expedition from Sydney to Melbourne, of which the Hume
Highway's direction approximates.

Road Quality:
Dual carriageway for the entire length with full freeway conditions encountered
at major road junctions and upon town bypasses. The road becomes mildly
undulating between Wodonga & Wangaratta and Seymour & Broadford. Otherwise, flat
straight conditions with high quantities of traffic.
Speed Limit: 80km/hr NSW/VIC border-Wodonga;
110km/hr Wodonga-Kalkallo (275km); 100km/hr Kalkallo-Campbellfield
