Kyneton

Kyneton, the largest town on the Calder Hwy (bypassed) between Melbourne and Bendigo, was surveyed in 1836, mainly to serve local pastoralists. The gold rush of the 1850's gave the town sudden injection and was the birth of the many original bluestone buildings in the town. The town is still very much a centre for local dairying and sheep farming as well as grape growing industries. Kyneton is a pleasant town with a busy and prosperous town centre.
